GigOdo Privacy Policy

Effective date: July 5, 2026

GigOdo ("we," "us") is a mileage and earnings tracker for gig-economy drivers. This policy explains what information the GigOdo app and website collect, how it is used, and the choices you have. The short version: your data exists to show you your miles and earnings. We do not sell it, we do not show ads, and we collect nothing we do not need.

Location data

GigOdo uses your device's location to measure the distance of your trips. When tracking is active — because you started a trip, or because you enabled Auto-Detect — the app reads GPS position on the device and adds up distance traveled. A persistent notification is always visible while this happens.

Your route is not stored and never leaves your phone. The app keeps only the computed result of a trip: total miles, start time, and end time. GPS coordinates are discarded immediately after each distance calculation and are never saved to disk or transmitted to our servers. Background location access exists solely so a trip keeps counting while your screen is locked or you are using another app; you can turn Auto-Detect off at any time, and location is not accessed when tracking is off.

Information you provide

Trips you save (miles, dates, the gig platform label you type, pay amounts, notes), fuel fill-ups you log (odometer, gallons, price), and settings (display name, deduction rates). This information is stored locally on your device.

Accounts and sync

Creating an account is optional. If you create one, we collect your email address and a password (stored only as a bcrypt hash — we cannot read it), and the trip, fuel, and settings data described above is synced to our server so you can access it across devices. Data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS/TLS) and stored in our database on servers we control. If you never create an account, nothing is transmitted anywhere.

If you have an account, your synced trip totals are processed on our own servers to generate your weekly summary. This processing happens entirely on hardware we control and your data is never shared with third-party AI providers.

What we do not do

We do not sell or rent your data. We do not show advertising. We do not use third-party analytics, tracking SDKs, or social plugins — the app contains no third-party code that phones home. We do not access your contacts, photos, messages, or the content of other apps.

Sharing

We share data only when you export it yourself (CSV or backup files you generate), or if required by law. There are no other recipients.

Retention and deletion

Local data stays on your device until you delete it (Settings > Clear All Data) or uninstall the app. Synced data is retained while your account is active. You can delete your account and all synced data from Settings, or by emailing us at the address below; deletion is permanent and completed within 30 days, including backups on their rotation schedule.

Security

Passwords are hashed with bcrypt, connections use TLS, and sync data is accessible only with your account token. No system is perfectly secure; if we learn of a breach affecting your data, we will notify you at your account email.

Children

GigOdo is for working drivers and is not directed to anyone under 18. We do not knowingly collect information from minors.

Tax information disclaimer

Deduction totals and cost estimates shown in the app are calculations based on data and rates you enter. They are planning tools, not tax, legal, or financial advice. Consult a licensed tax professional before filing.

Changes

If we make material changes to this policy, we will update this page and note it in the app before the change takes effect.
